PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

 

FEATURES 

  • A four-week study abroad research component in the Peruvian Amazon.

COURSE DESIGN 
  • Thorough pre-travel orientations, including health and safety information and tools for cross-cultural understanding.
  • An interdisciplinary curriculum that develops a profound understanding of real-world issues.
  • Individualized approach to learning whereby students design and implement their own research projects.
  • Incorporation of a service learning project in the Amazon.
  • Field visits and educational excursions to sites of historic, cultural or ecological importance.
  • Regular student-faculty meetings and mentoring to allow students to measure academic achievement and progress on individual research projects throughout the program

ACADEMIC OUTCOMES

After participating in the Amazon Program, students will have experience in:

  • Dialoguing with local and international experts on a wide range of topics
  • Asking and reflecting on the "big" questions
  • Studying, understanding and integrating the information in scholarly articles
  • Writing introspective essays and scholarly research papers
  • Confidently pursuing independent study projects
  • Participating in, and understanding the life of another country or culture
  • Developing an in-depth understanding of local issues and their global context
