POST CONFERENCE REPORT
CONFERENCE ADDRESSES
WHY?
Because President Bush has stated unequivocally that "respect for women" is among his administration's foreign policy imperatives that include: "the rule of law; limits on the power of the state and the strengthening of civil society; respect for women; private property; free speech; equal justice; and religious tolerance."
Because Secretary General Kofi Annan has clearly articulated the United Nations' support for women's rights: "Let us men remember that the achievement of women's rights is not the responsibility of women alone - it is the responsibility of us all. Let us act on the conviction that the advancement of women does not benefit women alone - it benefits us all."
Now is the time to share experience and expertise and to develop strategies to implement policies that are already in place that call for women's involvement in the postwar regimes that are currently being established in Afghanistan and Iraq.
WHEN:
March 12-13, 2004
WHERE:
Florida International University, Miami, Florida
GOALS:
To bring policy makers, practitioners, scholars and citizens together to be part of a global conversation about women's political, economic and social roles and status in post-conflict zones,

To publicize current policies such as UN Security Resolution 1325, and U.S. House Resolutions 281 and 196, and the need for their implementation through the media,
To produce a conference report to be disseminated through the world wide web and to policymakers and NGOs that can be utilized to mobilize further support
